The United Kingdom boasts one of the most prestigious education systems in the world. Each year, British universities welcome around 560,000 international students.

Education in UK state schools is free of charge and compulsory for children aged 5 to 16. The educational process includes primary education (ages 5–11) and secondary education (ages 11–16), concluding with GCSE examinations. At the upper-secondary level, students can continue along the academic path (A-Level) to enter university or follow vocational programmes (BTEC, NVQ).
Higher education comprises three levels: Bachelor's (3 years in England, 4 years in Scotland), Master's (1 year) and Doctoral studies (3–6 years). Tuition for international students ranges from 20,500 to 45,000 pounds per year for Bachelor's degrees and from 19,000 to 58,000 pounds for Master's degrees. The key feature of the British system is its narrow specialisation from the first year. The strongest fields are recognised to be medicine, law, engineering, finance, the arts and the humanities.
To study, you must demonstrate English proficiency of at least B2 (IELTS with a score of 6.0–6.5 for Bachelor's degrees, or TOEFL certificates). International applicants who do not meet the academic requirements can enrol in one-year International Foundation Year preparatory programmes.
The main advantages for international applicants are: the high quality of education and the international recognition of British diplomas, narrow specialisation from the first year, the opportunity to earn a Bachelor's degree in three years, the availability of preparatory programmes, the right to work while studying, and the opportunity to obtain a work visa after graduation.
